This is a shop that promotes fair trade around the developing world and then there are still thrift shops such as St. Vincent de Paul's. There are as many different types of shops as there are different people looking at them. In typical South Austin style the merchants of the area promote what is called 1st Thursday, where businesses host events and activities and most stay open until at least 10:00pm, some later, in an effort to promote this pedestrian friendly and historical area of South Congress. South Lamar "SOLA" is home to icons such as Waterloo Records, but it is also lends itself to a more trendy, modern and sophisticated style of retail and residential centers. South 1st is also coming into a new era. Driving along you will see new localized shops, eateries and residential units mixed in Adsl Line the older and classic merchants and homes.
